Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno has made a 200 hectares of land commitment to the Army, as part of it contributions to the Post-Service Housing Project, a retirement benefits for Military Personnel and some civilians being undertaken by the Chief of Army Staff.
The Governor who was speaking during a courtesy visit by a team of the Post-Service Housing Development Limited (PHDL), led by the MD/CEO, Major General J. D. Omali used the opportunity to speak glowingly about the state road network which he described as the best in the country, adding the state government is doing all it can to integrate all the local government areas within the state.
Our government house correspondent, Mfoniso Harrison, reports that the Governor while commending the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant-General Taoreed Lagbaja, for the laudable housing project for retired military personnel, stated that it was necessary to provide such facility for post-service retirement given the nature of tremendous service they render to the nation.
The Governor describing himself as a security conscious Governor, noted that it was worrisome when military personnel are given such limited time to exit the barracks after retirement with no definite place to go, adding that the state government is fully committed to making the housing project a reality.
Earlier in his remarks, the MD/CEO, Major General J. D. Omali said the Post-Service Housing Development Limited was established to alleviate the hardship faced by officers and soldiers in securing decent housing after retiring or being discharged from service and commended Governor Eno for his laudable development strides since inception and appealed to the State to partner with PHDL especially through the provision of land to enable it achieve its objective in the State.
