Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has reiterated his commitment to using state funds for projects that will benefit the majority of the people rather than yielding to pressures to satisfy a select few.

The governor made this assertion on Monday during the State Executive Council Ministerial Briefing and End-of-Year Review themed “Showcasing Achievements: Signposting the Future” at the Banquet Hall of the Government House, Uyo.

Eno dismissed claims suggesting that he personally possesses vast wealth, clarifying that the funds at his disposal belong to the state and are held in trust for the people of Akwa Ibom.

“I would like to address some unfounded narratives concerning the disbursement of public funds. When people see me, they believe I have a lot of money. I don’t have personal funds; I hold money in trust for the people of Akwa Ibom State,” Eno stated.

He added, “I will always disburse funds to address the needs of the majority rather than personal interests or demands from individuals. I hold myself accountable to Akwa Ibom people and will not misuse state resources to play to the gallery.”

Highlighting his administration’s priorities, Eno explained that his government has placed a significant emphasis on capital projects.

He noted that 2025 budget has been allocated to capital expenditure, while only one-third is earmarked for recurrent expenditure.

“Our administration is focused on ideas and projects that will benefit the overall needs of our people. We are deliberate about addressing the infrastructural and developmental needs of Akwa Ibom State,” he said.

The governor acknowledged the importance of constructive criticism but cautioned against baseless and malicious attacks aimed at undermining the government.

“As a government, we are not afraid of criticism; we welcome constructive feedback because it helps us understand the views of the people. However, when criticism becomes outright condemnation, it becomes a problem, as it weighs down leadership,” Eno noted.

The briefing also featured presentations from key members of the State Executive Council, including the Chairman of the Ibom Deep Seaport Implementation Committee, Mrs. Mfon Usoro; Commissioner for Works, Prof. Eno Ibanga; and Commissioner for Economic Development, Emen Bob, among others.
